Nestled along the eastern shore of Hudson Bay in Northern Canada, this geological area was formerly known as "Porpoise Cove" Greenstone Belt.

Scientific findings from 2017 revealed possible evidence of fossilized microorganisms within the Nuvvuagittuq Greenstone Belt rocks. This was a potential possibility at first, but scientists are still researching this region for more definitive evidence of these rocks. The rocks' detrital zircons indicate an astonishing age range of approximately ~ 4,321 - 3780 Ma.

This rock is captivating, with its cummingtonite amphibolite, the dominant rock in the Nuvvuagittuq Greenstone Belt. While most amphibolites boast a dark green hue, this unique belt features sections with an intriguing grayish-beige color. It's so distinctive that it's been coined "faux-amphibolite." This specimen is rich in garnets, suggesting a highly metamorphosed origin as volcano-sedimentary rocks. It is truly a geological marvel.
