This mesolithic tool is from the Woongarra Pool, Hamersley Range, Pilbara, Western Australia. It was legally collected in the 1900s and is from an old scientific collection.
The Woongarra Pool is located on the Beasley River. It is situated in the Hamersley Ranges, which was originally surveyed by F.T. Gregory in the mid-1800s. The Hamersley Ranges were surveyed by F.T. Gregory twice in the mid-1800s. Gregory named the ranges after his friend Edward Hamersley and also gave names to other features in the region.
The pool is nestled against a wide sandy gravel bed and is surrounded by river gums, creating a serene and picturesque landscape.
Located in the Pilbara region, the Hamersley Range extends over a large expanse of Western Australia. It's part of an ancient tableland that has been shaped by faults and gorges over millions of years. The range terminates in rocky headlands and coral islets along the Indian Ocean coast. Notably, it contains Western Australia's highest peak, Mount Meharry, breathtaking canyons, waterfalls, and pools that reveal almost all of Earth's early history. The area is rich in faunal diversity, with mammal species, bird species, reptiles and amphibians.
Size of Mesolithic Tool: 80mm L X 28mm W X 9mm D. It ships with a Certificate of Authenticity, tag, tag stand and background information.
