This energetic-looking fulgurite has a mixture of the colors white, gray, black and orange. The various melted sand grains of various sizes had been heated, stretched, welded together to form a shape, when solidified, resembles froth or foam, at the top of a wave crest. This is an all-natural specimen.

The name “fulgurites” is derived from the Latin word fulgur, meaning “thunderbolt.” Often referred to as “petrified lightning,” fulgurites are naturally heated sand grains that experience heating, fusing and then cooling to take on many shapes and sizes. Lightning bolts reach temperatures hotter than the surface of the sun.
