This is a great specimen of green trinitite atomic glass. Trinitite is known as Atomsite and Alamogordo Glass, and it is the name given to the glassy residue left on the desert floor after the plutonium-based Trinity atomic bomb test on July 16, 1945, near Alamogordo, New Mexico. This trinitite was legally collected in 1948.

This specimen of green Trinitite is shown front and back with a description tag. Size of the specimen: 14mm L X 14mm W X 5mm D, Weight: 0.92 grams. XRF included.

Several different types of Trinitite have been identified. Green is the most common form. Its color comes from the arkosic sand at the Trinity site. This sand consisted of angular grains of quartz, potassium feldspar, plagioclase, muscovite, calcite, pyroxene, amphibole, and rock fragments. Albite, microcline, and actinolite are other associated minerals in various proportions.  Red and black contains iron from the tower structure. Red spherules have been found in the black trinitite. Red contains copper from the communications cables leading away from the site, lead bricks, steel tower, and bomb casing. The official environment in which the trinitite was created consisted of sand, copper, iron/ steel, and whatever indigenous minerals that were in the ground at the time of the atomic test.

Notice: All of our Trinitite has been tested as being authentic. Orders are shipped in compliance with Section 13 from part 40 of the NRC Nuclear Regulatory Commission rules and regulations and Postal Service regulations specified in 49 CFR 173.421 for activity limits of low-level radioactive materials.
