Sassolite is a borate mineral. It was named after Sasso Pisano, Italy, where it was first found. The area is noted for its hot boric acid springs, geothermal phenomena. Great mineral from an extremophile environment.
This material is from the hot boric acid springs of a geyser field in Sasso Pisano, Castelnuovo Val di Cecina, Italy. Aggregates of white, tabular pseudohexagonal crystals range in size up to 1 cm. Very interesting material from an unusual location. Disc size: 1 3/4" diameter by 5/8" D.
Ships with tag, tag stand, information, COA and protective case.
Great addition to any serious geological collection that includes materials from geysers and extremophile locations!
