Trophy, giant shatter cone from Kentland, Indiana. It is the best we have ever seen! It has fantastic characteristic "horsetailing" on every face (except the base). It has a naturally flattened base, so it is easy to display. It even still has meteorite impact material smoothly lodged in a couple of places in the front face! This is a large, quality museum grade display specimen that would make any geological collection very "classy."

Shatter cones are conical fractures with typical markings produced by shock waves resembling horse tails. They belong to the regular macroscopic shock inventory in rocks of meteorite or comet impact structures.

The Kentland impact site is a highly eroded complex crater. The disturbance is about 8 miles in diameter with the core of the site in Ordovician rocks in the Prairie Du Chien through Maquoketa Groups. Surrounding the core are Silurian rocks consisting of dolomite and Kokomo Limestone.

Size: 13 1/2" H X 11 1/2" W X 10" D, weight: 48.5 lbs; Ships with information, Kentland Indiana shatter cone tag, and Certificate of Authenticity. Tag stand included. Photo cube not included.

This Kentland, Indiana, shatter cone is a dynamic showy geological specimen. It would make a great addition to any serious impact collection.

This scientific material is Guaranteed Authentic. It was professionally and legally collected and arrives with a Certificate of Authenticity.
