Helvite is a rare mineral named after its Swiss discoverer, Alfred von Heli. It was first described in 1893 and has been found in various locations worldwide. Helvite's composition consists of the elements beryllium, aluminum, silicon, oxygen, fluorine, and iron. It belongs to the garnet group of minerals and has a distinctive color range from pale yellow to dark brown.
In mineralogy circles, it is technically known as "Helvine." Helvite is more commonly known. A synonym for helvine is "Moonlight Garnet."
