Fulgurites are fascinating geological specimens created when lightning strikes the ground. In this case, lightning fused rock and sand at the base of a power line creating this extraordinarily unique giant fulgurite! This incredible action was caught on video on October 26, 1997, near Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The large and small grains and variations in color and shape make this specimen spectacular!
Lightning is an electrical discharge caused by the buildup of electrostatic energy in storm clouds, which can discharge with incredible force. The strike was incredible and hotter than the Sun's surface! The bolt melted everything instantaneously in its path.
This fulgurite is classified as 'museum grade' because of its rare, large size, and unique formation method. In addition, a strike like this is rarely caught on video and included with the purchase.
Size: 9 1/2" L X 7 1/2" W X 4 3/4" D, Weight: 4.7 lb.
Ships with Certificate of Authenticity, VHS video, tag, and tag stand. Sizing cube not included. The stand is available but extra on special request, $70.
Buy this large fulgurite that is certain to make your geological collection from pretty good to spectacular!
