Fulgurite Lightning Sand Fractal Tree

This is a beautiful "fractal tree" fulgurite with multiple arms from Australia. This lightning sand glass tube has a prominent hole at the top and bottom, with the interior lined with smooth glass. This type is the "rarest of the rare" for fulgurites as it is predominantly a grayish white with a sprinkling of dark-colored sand grains. Being multicolored with many diverse features makes it unique and fascinating.

Fulgurite lightning sand is made by a bolt of lightning piercing the sand, and as it grounds its way into the earth, a hollow, glass-lined tube is formed. Few have multiple fusions like this one with an actual "fractal tree" appearance.

Often referred to as “fossilized lightning,” this is the real stuff talked about in the Hollywood Movie "Sweet Home, Alabama."
