This combeite with wollastonite, nepheline, augite matrix was collected in an ejected boulder field in the African Rift Valley, Tanzania. This remote region is home to the Oldoinyo Lengai Volcano, translated from the Maasai language - the "Mountain of God." This region is known for unique low-temperature carbonatitic lava.
Combeite is a rare silicate mineral. It is named after Arthur Delmar Combe, a geologist with the Geological Survey of Uganda, who contributed to our knowledge of the geology of the Virunga volcanic field.
Size of Specimen: 15mm L X 14mm W X 8mm D. Ships with tag, tag stand, information, COA and protective case.
This material came from the Lava eruption of 1917, and this rare Na-Ca-Silicate forms colorless long prismatic, striated crystals about 4mm in size. The material is enclosed in a lava matrix.
This specimen would make a great addition to your geological collection if you enjoy rare locations, as well.
